#TuesdayTreasures with Dave Biebel

Good Morning!

A few weeks ago I introduced you to Dr. David Biebel, author and owner of Healthy Life Press. Today, Dave is sharing something he treasures with us....

What I Treasure Most
by Dr. David Biebel

My father was a preacher in northern New England. This meant that as far as the church was concerned, if the doors were open, we were there – with bright, shiny faces, and sitting in the second row, which was numbered 34 or something like that, because in olden times pews were rented to the constituents.

As far as the community was concerned, as PKs (preacher’s kids) we were supposed to be exemplary in some nebulous sort of way so the Gospel (and our father’s reputation) would not be impugned by some act of moral turpitude that one of us might commit. Being the oldest, I got to test that fence first, with the result that I learned the hard way that Jesus really is the “wonderful counselor, mighty God, everlasting Father, prince of peace” (Isaiah 9:6) for there were times when I lost my bearings and needed a wonderful counselor, a mighty God to protect and call me back from my wanderings, a divine Father whose love is unconditional and eternal, a Person to provide a hiding place – his grace – where the storms of life could not drown me.

I treasure him whom the apostle Paul calls “the indescribable gift” (2 Cor. 9:15). But what I treasure most is the astounding process that God chose to give his Son to the world. For if Christianity were not the truth, no human would design this way to eternal life. Consider, for instance, the following passage from the Gospel of Matthew (Matthew 1:1-17, excerpted):

This is a record of the ancestors of Jesus the Messiah, a descendant of David and of Abraham: Abraham was the father of Isaac. Isaac was the father of Jacob. Jacob was the father of Judah and his brothers.

Judah was the father of Perez and Zerah (whose mother was Tamar). Perez was the father of Hezron. Hezron was the father of Ram. Ram was the father of Amminadab. Amminadab was the father of Nahshon. Nahshon was the father of Salmon. Salmon was the father of Boaz (whose mother was Rahab). Boaz was the father of Obed (whose mother was Ruth). Obed was the father of Jesse. Jesse was the father of King David. David was the father of Solomon (whose mother was Bathsheba, the widow of Uriah). . . .

Jacob was the father of Joseph, the husband of Mary. Mary gave birth to Jesus, who is called the Messiah. All those listed above include fourteen generations from Abraham to David, fourteen from David to the Babylonian exile, and fourteen from the Babylonian exile to the Messiah.

Why would I treasure a part of the Scriptures that some find “boring?” This genealogy is extremely important because it establishes that Jesus had the credentials necessary to be the Messiah: son of Abraham; son of David. If this were not true, he could not have been the Messiah.

You would expect the Messiah to come from an impeccable family tree, wouldn’t you? But the first six verses of this passage name a liar, a conniver, a woman who seduced her father-in-law (thus causing him to commit incest), a prostitute, a Gentile, two adulterers (one of whom was a murderer, also). Sounds like a description of the moral mayhem taking place in our world today. “There is nothing new under the sun,” said Solomon (see Ecclesiastes 1).

While it’s true that Matthew was establishing the lineage of Jesus, God uses this ‘boring’ section to say something really awesome to anyone who will listen:

I can use anyone to accomplish my purposes, and ‘anyone’ includes you, with all your shortcomings and failures.

#SaturdaySpotlight is on Constance Bretes & 2 of her novels!

Good Morning Friends,

It is with great pleasure I bring you today's guest. Constance Bretes is a friend from the Authors Helping Authors (AHA) promo group I belong to and she is sharing with us two of her latest releases.

Take it away, Connie!

Marissa's home was her haven, until Riley invaded her space.

Escaping from her abusive ex-husband, Marissa Simpson returns to her hometown to start over. She spends her days working at the local jewelry store, and the rest of her time is dedicated to mining along Red Rock River, searching for precious gems. Marissa has no intention of getting involved with another man, or with the community she left behind all those years ago. That is until Riley McCade shows up.

Riley is the Sheriff of Quartz County. He loves his community and goes out of his way to protect and serve. When he meets up with Marissa, he's bound and determined to get to know her even though she insists she's not interested.

The more Riley learns about Marissa's past, the more he concludes that she may be in danger. When her ex-husband shows up, can Riley protect her? And can he earn her love in the process?

Blue as Sapphires can be purchased at Amazon, Barnes & Noble and Kobo.

LOVE that cover, Connie! What else y'got for us today?

He's an overworked police chief, and she's a disgraced cop. Can he rescue her from her own depths of hell without losing his heart to her in the process?

Someone is kidnapping newborn infants and selling them to the highest bidder. Police Chief Patrick Carter has his hands full investigating the case. To complicate matters, he's short on staff.

Jade Harlowe has secrets, ones that she vowed no one would ever know. She used to be a police officer, but when a tragedy occurred—one that everyone held her responsible for—she resigned and moved to another state to start over, accepting a job as a dispatcher for the police, fire, and ambulance departments.

When Patrick discovers Jade's past police experience he offers her a job on the force. He needs help working the kidnapping cases, and Jade previously solved a similar case, so she could be a valuable asset. But will they be able to fight the attraction that's sizzling between them? Something that could be very distracting if they can't control it.

The clock is ticking. They have to find those babies and prevent more from being taken. But a very nosy news reporter may compromise everything if she digs deep enough to uncover Jade's past.

Neither Patrick nor Jade thought they had room for each other in their lives, but working so closely together makes it impossible to deny the chemistry. Can Patrick break through the wall Jade has built up around her, or will her past finally catch up with her and she loses everything once again?

Jade's Redemption can be purchased at Amazon, B&N, Kobo & ITunes.

Wonderful, Connie....now tell us a little about yourself....

I started writing contemporary romance and contemporary romance suspense fifteen years ago, and after multiple rejections, got my first contract for Delayed Justice, released in 2014.

I lives in Basin, Montana, where three feline furballs own me and my husband, and a dog that lives next door named Sara, who thinks she also lives with the Bretes family. I love the mountains that surround my home, I love basket weaving, jewelry making, and just visiting all the folks in the small community we live in.

I currently have seven books published, and a number of other ones in various stages of edits. Right now, I’m working on a new book, called Roadside Love. A murder mystery/romance is a small town in Wyoming. I have two other books that are at the end of their editing days and now at critique partners, the books are Elkhorn In The Moonlight and Rocky River Gold. Both are small town romances.

I can be reached through the following media:

Hope you enjoyed today's spotlight Friends and that you'll visit each week for Tuesday Treasures, Thursday Thoughts and Saturday Spotlight.

#ThursdayThoughts with Russell Williams

Good Morning and Happy Thanksgiving!

I pray this day is blessed for you ALL. Today's guest is a brand new-to-me and our blog and he's here with his latest novel so please welcome Russell Williams......

I’m R.A. Williams. My friends call me Russell. By day, I work as a medical technologist at a Children’s Hospital. I devote my free time to writing Christian fiction.

My first two novels are about time travel. To me, this is a fascinating topic, but for my teenage daughter, not so much. So I set out to write a novel about a determined, young heroine that my daughter could identify with. The protagonist had to be feisty yet flawed, with her share of anxiety and emotional baggage. I also wanted to add a bit of romance into the mix.

So I brainstormed for ideas, and immediately the Shroud of Turin came to mind. It is by far the most studied relic in history. More than 99% of scientific evidence suggests the Shroud is the authentic burial cloth of Jesus Christ. Only one test says otherwise—that pesky carbon date performed in 1988.

Fortunately, since 1988, scientists have been busy conjuring up theories as to why the carbon date is wrong. One such theory is that the carbon date was performed on a repaired corner of the Shroud, mixing new fibers in with old. Another theory is that radiation formed the image. Since neutron radiation forms carbon-14, that is why the carbon date is invalid. My protagonist, Amari Johnston, believes the patch theory and her love interest, Dr. Kevin Brenner, feels like his theory of radiation makes more sense. Together they gather evidence so they can plead their case to the Vatican—but not if a serial killer can stop them first.

I know, exciting stuff, right? My daughter thinks so. She loves it. And I’m sure you will too.

Oh Wow, Russell, I love stories about the Shroud of Turin and your's sounds fascinating! How/where can we find out more?

To learn some “behind the screnes” trivia about the writing of Carbon-14: The Shroud of Turin, visit my website. Carbon-14: The Shroud of Turin is available on Amazon in ebook, Kindle Unlimited, and print.

Author Bio: R.A. Williams writes suspenseful Christian fiction that reveals not just the characters' actions, but the psychological motives behind those actions. He pulls the reader through a full spectrum of emotion while at the same time injecting humor as comic relief. He holds a degree in psychology and sociology, and his published works include the novels Carbon-14: The Shroud of Turin, The Class of 86, and The Gospel According to Todd.

His shorter works have appeared in The Christian Communicator, Encounters With God, and Dreams and Visions. His interests include psychology, Biblical history, finger-style guitar, and religious relics such as The Shroud of Turin. He lives in Tennessee with his wife, daughter, and beagle.

Well friends, hope you enjoyed Russell's visit as much as I did and that you'll join me each week for Tuesday Treasures, Thursday Thoughts and Saturday Spotlight.

Until next time take care and God Bless.

#TuesdayTreasures Guest post by Lori Benton

Good Morning and Happy Thanksgiving Week!

Today's guest is new to me and our blog and brought to us by LitFuse Publicity, so please welcome, Lori Benton!

For the past year or so one of my treasures has been my Kodak Easy Share camera. It’s more complex than a point and shoot, but doesn’t boast all the features that some cameras do. You can’t attach lenses, but there are various settings and ISO speeds and the ability to zoom with the built-in lens. There are much bigger, faster, stronger cameras out there, so why do I love this little camera so much?

Before I became a writer in my early twenties, I was a wildlife artist. I drew and I painted. I was passionate about the visual arts. My work hung in a gallery alongside that of Robert Bateman (my all-time favorite wildlife artist). Then the writing bug bit and I allowed painting to fall by the wayside.

Writing is more demanding of me creatively than painting ever was. After about twenty years there came a season where I was feeling drained. Burned out might not be overstating matters.

Then, through a friend with a passion for photography and the outdoors, I discovered Instagram and “woke up” to the gorgeous state in which I’m blessed to live (yes, I was actually in danger of losing my awe about the Pacific Northwest as well!). I decided to learn how to use my little camera beyond treating it like a point and shoot. I studied what other landscape photographers were posting on Instagram. I grew adventurous. I discovered new trails, new mountains, new coves and beaches and waterfalls across Oregon and neighboring states.

I bought a tripod. I learned how to edit my photos and discovered that was half the fun for me. The visual artist in me had reawakened!

And, unexpectedly, my creative well started filling up again—a good and necessary thing for a writer to be sure she’s doing in the midst of the long and demanding process of bringing a novel through from concept to publication.

Check out more of my photos on Instagram.

I love taking photos too, Lori! These are beautiful and definitely something to treasure. Thanks for sharing with us. Now please tell us a little more about yourself and your new book.....

Lori Benton was raised east of the Appalachian Mountains, surrounded by early American history going back three hundred years. Her novels transport readers to the eighteenth century, where she brings to life the Colonial and early Federal periods of American history. When she isn’t writing, reading, or researching, Lori enjoys exploring and photographing the Oregon wilderness with her husband. She is the author of “Burning Sky,” recipient of three Christy Awards, “The Pursuit of Tamsen Littlejohn,” Christy-nominee “The Wood’s Edge,” and “A Flight of Arrows.”

Find out more about Lori at http://loribenton.blogspot.com

Either she and her children would emerge from that wilderness together, or none of them would. . . .

In 1774, the Ohio-Kentucky frontier pulses with rising tension and brutal conflicts as Colonists push westward and encroach upon Native American territories. The young Inglesby family is making the perilous journey west when an accident sends Philip back to Redstone Fort for help, forcing him to leave his pregnant wife Clare and their four-year old son Jacob on a remote mountain trail.

When Philip does not return and Jacob disappears from the wagon under the cover of darkness, Clare awakens the next morning to find herself utterly alone, in labor and wondering how she can to recover her son . . . especially when her second child is moments away from being born.

Clare will face the greatest fight of her life, as she struggles to reclaim her son from the Shawnee Indians now holding him captive. But with the battle lines sharply drawn, Jacob’s life might not be the only one at stake. When frontiersman Jeremiah Ring comes to her aid, can the stranger convince Clare that recovering her son will require the very thing her anguished heart is unwilling to do—be still, wait and let God fight this battle for them?

Wow... wishing you the best of luck and God's blessings with your new book, Lori!

Hope you enjoyed today's post friends, and that you'll check back each week for Tuesday Treasures, Thursday Thoughts and Saturday Spotlight.

#SaturdaySpotlight is on Pamela Jannarone

Good Morning Friends,

Pamela Jannarone has visited and shared treasures with us before, so please welcome her back....

Create, Research and Experiment Recreate! By Pamela Jannarone Scott

Thank you Pamela for having me return as a guest on your blog today.!  I am excited to be here and most grateful for your invitation! Today’s topic is creative fiction, with tips and tidbits.
Its all up to the writer to deliver to the reader, entertainment.  The kind that they will remember for years to come.

Create
This article focuses on writing creative fiction.  Creating rich characters deep in characterization in a real life setting entertain the reader in fictional stories. The richer the factual information is formulated into the story plot, the more it will come alive on the page.  The pen at hand is the magic to a witer’s fictional world.  Make it your own magic and write your own world!
It doesn’t matter the size of your world, the time or place.  It’s all in the story and about the story. Idea - Create - Research-Experiment-Recreate.

Research
There are many ways to accumulate your research especially if you don’t know much about your subject and are under a deadline to perform.  Often it is said, write what you know, yet you can also write what you like and have may readers following you because they can resonate and like the same things that you do.

Researching facts and  trivia online and in the library help make a story come together where it makes sense,  not to mention it gives ideas for the writer to  move the plot plan forward to a satisfying end.

Asking questions or conducting informal interviews with those more experienced in the subject will lend rich texture to you craft.  Tiiny tidbits of iformation can be gaathered from just one conversation when you choose to ask someone ‘what is it like’ and they will be happy to describe it to you in their own words recollecting actual experiences.

Experiment
Experimenting with the elements of nature often lead a writer to a territory full of rich description setting for his or her story by actually experiencing the occasion whether it be swimming, hunting, fishing or traveling, camping, cooking, the subjects are endless.  Visiting an old museum and actually placing yourself in the time rich of history will invigorate the writing soul and inspire the moment.  You may even pick up a tip or factual research that will give even more ideas about future stories.

Recreate
In my particular story Reign of the Forest, published by Centum Press in One Hundred Voices, Volume III, (https://www.centumpublishing.com/) the above tips and tricks were used in creating my story.  It started out as an assignment in a creative fiction class a story I chose to include in my professional portfolio.  With a few minor changes, and deeper editing, I sent it off to a publisher in hopes of being published.  There is nothing more exciting than being able to have a professional portfolio where an actual story was accepted and published.  It can be used for future clips when submitting other stories and is a recent clip in sync with today’s readers.

Experimenting with several publishers is always key to hone your craft.  Some publishers will provide cover art and others don’t.  This is where the imagination of the writer is challenged in description that is called upon to make the story blend but not overly descriptive.  Being in a scene whether it be a forest or a beach, a writer will be using all five senses where inspriation truly comes alive in the scents, the sights, the sounds, the taste, and the touch.  This is what needs to be passed on to the reader where the can relate and feel like they are actually there.  In my story I found a medium where opposites attract, Deer hunters and Nature Lovers and opposites differ depending on fate and destiny.  With a rounded twist of spiritual guidance, the story came to life.

In my story Reign of the Forest, there was no cover art for each story provided yet this is where the reader will use their own imagination in the way that the writer describes the setting, the action plotted moves within and around the settings that may even change, twisting along with the plot, leading the reader to a happy ending or thoughts to ponder afterwards. When creating the story I actually based it upon experiences from hunters that told their stories and watched non-hunters experience the awe of such sights.  There is nothing more beautiful than to spot a deer in the forest, its young ones following behind.  The species and gender, a beautiful Doe and her fawn or a Buck built with tall and protruding antlers showing off its age and wisdom.  When they sense danger, the Buck will make a short snorting sound, or a blow.  It can also be scary to a deer hunter if the Buck is nearby and behind the hunter where it suddenly blows and warns its own kind and kin. The mating call of the wild is also a unique sound where the Doe bleeps.  The sounds of nature become more obvious if one just sits quietly (very quietly) and listen.  The wild has its own camouflage in order to feel protected.  While the forests here are full of deer where a current population exists of 1.27 million among a human population of 10.31 million, the suburbs and urban areas are also plentiful with deer but not easy to define in terms of additional population.  The forest is full and the world full of many types of deer with the exception of the Antarctica and Australia.

Deer are plentiful and can often cause accidents on the roadways. While humans must take care with respect to the wild and nature itself the opposite (the wild) doesn’t know any different.  Be cautious when deer hunting and have your survival pack handy.  Deer meat provides lean nutrition and is often a staple in regions and in family tradition and marriages, where hunting for survival is a God gifted ability, therefore it should be treated with the utmost respect.  No poaching, no shining and abide ball laws that apply.  Be cautious when driving on the roads home at night, because the deer will cross the road and will be intimidated by a vehicle’s headlights. And if you are just into deer gazing then enjoy this photo......

One of the endless tasks in a writer’s career is to help market the story and get it out there to as many readers as possible.  After all, one is in the paying profession.  If you are interested in reading Reign of the Forest, please accept a discounted code offer of 10% (Discount code 100V3-79)  to be used for purchases at the website here: https://www.centumpublishing.com/.

Thanks Pamela! Good luck and God's blessings with your story and the anthology!

#ThursdayThoughts with Mike Befeler

Good Morning!

I can't even begin to tell you where this month, much less this year has gone. I guess it's true time flies when you're having fun! Today's guest has shared thoughts with us on a couple of occasions and he continues with more interesting information about GeezerLit Mysteries. So, please welcome Mike Befeler back.....

The Importance of Older Characters in Mystery Novels

Most of the mystery novels I write feature older characters. I affectionately call these geezer-lit mysteries. So why is it important to have older characters in novels? There are lots of books with young heroes and heroines playing quidditch, racing cars and jumping out of airplanes, but there is also a place for the older characters who have life experiences that provide wisdom, even if their footsteps have slowed.

Since mysteries involve solving a puzzle, the mind of the sleuth is very important. I have a protagonist who has short-term memory loss, yet he can use the functioning part of his brain to discover the perpetrator. As Hercule Poirot says, you need to use the gray cells.
As a mystery writer I enjoy putting ordinary people into extraordinary circumstances. This includes solving a murder. An older character can surprise the villain by applying life learning to a difficult situation.

I enjoy mixing the generations. In my Paul Jacobson Geezer-lit Mystery Series, my protagonist often teams with his preteen granddaughter, Jennifer, to solve mysteries. They also tell each other politically incorrect geezer jokes, much to the consternation of Jennifer’s mother.
So don’t write off the oldsters. And if you’re the bad guy, watch out because you may overlook them, but they’re paying attention and will get you.

THANKS so much, Mike! I know several people in my circle of reading friends who might enjoy GeezerLit Mysteries!

Mike is past-president of the Rocky Mountain Chapter of Mystery Writers of America. He holds a Master’s degree from UCLA and a Bachelor’s degree from Stanford. He grew up in Honolulu, Hawaii, and now lives in Lakewood, California with his wife, Wendy.

#TuesdayTreasures with Jacqueline Seewald!

Good Morning Friends!

Today's guest has shared treasures before and been in our spotlight as well, so please welcome back one of my long-time author friends, Jacqueline Seewald!

Time for Thanksgiving by Jacqueline Seewald

Pam has asked me to write about something I treasure. As we once again approach our national Thanksgiving holiday, this seems particularly appropriate.

First and foremost, I treasure my husband, my children and my grandchildren. I treasure good health. I also treasure the fact that I am now able to be a full-time writer.

My husband, Monte, encouraged me to write something that would be meaningful and significant. I thought long and hard about how to fulfill that suggestion.

On November 8th, my novella THE BURNING was published by Annurlunda Enterprises. The Burning is based on a play I wrote which won the Playhouse 22 Playwrights Award (in the late 1980’s) and was performed on stage. I decided to approach the story in another genre.

THE BURNING is faction, part fact, but also fiction, about what happens to a family in Pennsylvania as the result of a coal fire burning under the town. Members of the Ferris family face his or her personal hell, barely coming through it alive, forced to acknowledge painful truths and deal with issues of faith. It’s based on real events that occurred in Centralia. Unfortunately, such problems continue to plague coal-mining communities in different places. And there are no easy answers.

Here is a brief excerpt from the novella:

Chapter Four

George drove home on autopilot, detached, barely aware of his surroundings. The talk with Baines kept turning over in his head. He’d worked so hard for so many years to provide a good life for his family. Was that going to end now? The whole thing seemed crazy. Could some underground fire wreck his life and that of his family? He shook his head, refusing to accept this as inevitable.

The living room of George Ferris’s house usually offered a refuge, but he didn’t want to walk inside yet. Instead he stood in the front hallway praying for composure while silently lurking. He could see Amy was sitting on the sofa attentively reading a book, feet tucked under her.

Every so often, she coughed. Liz came into the room. She was dressed in brown slacks and a casual cream-colored blouse. He admired how beautiful his wife was. With her natural good looks, she wore very little make-up and didn’t need it. George was reminded of how much he loved her. Liz was the real deal. What would this news do to her? She deserved so much better in life. For a few minutes, he watched Liz straightening up the room, but then she stopped to listen to Amy’s recurring cough.
THE BURNING is now available both in print and as an e-book. You can check out the details from the publisher at:

Dianna Vagianos Armentrout details her pregnancy journey with her daughter, Mary Rose, who died an hour after birth of trisomy 18, a random genetic illness described as “incompatible with life.”

For five long months of pregnancy, she knew that her baby would not live and thrive, planning a funeral and seeking hospice for her unborn daughter. The heaviness of this grief, which most women bear alone, is shared here and will comfort mothers who have experienced miscarriage, stillbirth and infant death.

With eloquent language, fierce honesty and a record of the rawness of grief, readers in the midst of their own suffering will recognize the path that bereaved parents walk. Dianna’s experiences with infertility, motherhood, infant loss and miscarriage infuse her writing with compassion for all women.

Through journal entries, essays and poetry, Dianna invites the reader to process grief and honor the life of the child, no matter how brief. In addition, readers will learn how to support the bereaved by remembering the baby and pregnancy.

Finally there is a book to honor the pregnancy, baby and loss, loving the children past their death, loving the wombs that nurtured them and accepting the sacred path of mothering children whose bodies are broken, but whose souls are intact and perfectly whole. This book shines with love and the knowledge that even the briefest life is holy.

Read it. Share it. Spread the word. We no longer have to grieve our infants and pregnancies alone.

Praise for Walking the Labyrinth of My Heart by Dianna Vagianos Armentrout

“This beautifully written story of loss, and redemption, is a must-have for anyone who has faced the devastation of losing a child. Yes, you will cry with Dianna, but you will also admire the beauty of her soul.”- Mary Potter Kenyon, author of ‘Refined By Fire’, ‘Chemo-Therapist’, ‘Mary and Me’, et al

“Pregnancy is often thought of (and typically is) a time filled anticipation and joy.  The deep, dark secret is this: pregnancies are sometimes lost.

Dianna Vagianos Armentrout, author of Walking the Labyrinth of My Heart, shows us the inner workings of that harsh reality. With beauty and rawness, she shows the innermost parts of her heart as she journeyed (and journeys) through the “diagnosis” of a Trisomy 18 baby. She shows us her emails, journals, poems, and the “art” of grieving. She explains that the loss of a child is not the end of loving that child. Nor is the grief something that goes away a few weeks after the funeral.
It is a heartfelt and honest read that I would highly recommend to any woman who has dealt or is dealing with a defect. It would also be beneficial to any woman who is dealing with the loss of a baby. Dianna writes the way her spirit is: open, raw, beautiful. She walks with every mother who has ever lost a child.”- Gloria Miles, Simple Miricles Birth Services

“Dianna Vagianos Armentrout takes the grief and heartache of her journey and creates a space that opens hearts. Dianna has written a seminal book that will resonate with those who know the primal pain of losing a child from stillbirth, miscarriage or newborn death. To moms reeling in deep grief, Dianna offers words and comfort and, in doing so, creates a circle of tear-stained realness, fortitude and big love. Brava! This book poignantly and beautifully sings the heart’s song of infant loss.”- Adele Ryan McDowell, Ph.D., author of ‘Making Peace with Suicide’ and ‘Balancing Act’

“Dianna is an amazing woman and a brilliant writer. This book is useful to anyone who has experienced an infant loss or anyone who supports families experiencing infant loss. The work that she is doing in sharing her story is so important to help give perspective and help move through the natural process of death.”-Mr. Books, Amazon Reviewer

Wow...definitely sounds like a wonderful book that will help people all over the world! Now let's find out a little more about Dianna....

Dianna Vagianos Armentrout is a published writer, teacher, workshop facilitator and poetry therapist. She graduated from Adelphi University’s Honors Program and earned her MAW from Manhattanville College. Dianna’s pregnancy with her daughter, Mary Rose, who died an hour after birth of trisomy 18, changed her life completely. Her blog, Walking the Labyrinth of My Heart, was launched in April 2015 as a way of offering support to others going through pregnancies with difficult and fatal diagnoses.

Dianna wishes to change the cultural fear of death and social awkwardness around the bereaved by educating others to be present and open to the natural process of death. Not knowing what to say is fine. Let’s sit together quietly not knowing what to say about our most difficult and sacred losses, because a loving community is vital to the healing of the bereaved in our broken world. Dianna volunteers with Isaiah’s Promise as a peer minister, and can’t help sending “Healing Companion” cards to mothers facing pregnancy and newborn losses.

Dianna’s poems, short fiction and essays have been published in several journals and anthologies, including The Vermont Literary Review, The Connecticut Review, The Dos Passos Review, Melusine or Women in the 21st century, Sacred Fire Magazine, Sensations Magazine, and Inkwell. She has taught at Southern Connecticut State University, Quinnipiac University and The Graduate Institute, and has facilitated poetry workshops in the tri-state area. As a poet and teacher, she believes that everyone has the inherent gift of poetry. Her workshops create the space for people to be still and access their own words, images and metaphors as they step into their healing.

She lives at the foothills of the Rocky Mountains. When she isn’t writing or reading, she spends her time outdoors walking and gardening. Dianna also tinkers with recipes for paleo cookies and shares them with those around her.

#ThursdayThoughts with William Burt

Good Morning Friends!

A couple of weeks ago I introduced you to William Burt who shared some treasures with us. Today's he's got something for us to think about.....

Considering the ferocity and frequency of the recent hurricanes that have devastated the Caribbean and Florida, many people have been asking, “Where is God in all of this?” A trite answer might be, “Well, He’s right there in the midst of it all."

While that response is undoubtedly true, it doesn’t address the bigger question, which is, “Why did God allow those hurricanes in the first place?” Again, we could glibly answer, “For His glory and His perfect purposes,” an explanation that begs the ultimate question, “Why does God allow evil in the world?”

Though many books have been written that delve into this issue more thoroughly than I can here, I believe we can find the answer in both Genesis and Job. In Genesis, we read how Adam and Eve disobeyed God’s edict by surrendering to Satan’s temptation and lies, bringing ruination upon the human race and creation itself (cf. Romans 8:22). In essence, all of the original couple’s descendants are suffering the consequences of that rebellious decision. In Job, we see how Satan must ask God’s permission before afflicting His servants in any way, and we also see that the Father of Lies is capable of inflicting violent, weather-related phenomena upon God’s children.

This brings us to our final question: “Why has God allowed Satan to run rampant over the earth all these years?” The Adversary still incites people to sin, wreaking both physical and spiritual destruction in countless lives. To be sure, God can use Satan for His own ends, but I am convinced the answer ultimately lies in God’s mercy and kindness to us. Although we all must suffer the repercussions of the Original Sin, God does not bind us to Adam and Eve's Original Decision. Rather than condemning the entire human race to hell out of hand, God is offering each human being the same choice He offered Adam and Eve: the freedom to follow God (through Christ) or to follow Satan. In effect, God is recapitulating Eden’s pivotal Choice for each one of us, but to make that Choice authentic, Lucifer must still be a factor in the equation—and he will remain a factor in earth’s spiritual equation until God binds and casts him into the bottomless pit for a thousand years. When he is released again, it is only to offer the human race Eden’s Choice one last time before our enemy is consigned eternally to the Lake of Fire.

In this we can find comfort and hope, that God will not permit Satan’s insidious influence in this world a moment longer than necessary. Then as Christ takes His rightful place on earth’s throne, all hunger and sorrow, pain—and hurricanes—will fade into distant memory.

#TuesdayTreasures with Author Leonora Meriel

Good Morning Friends!

Today's guest is brand new to our blog and brought to us by B00k r3vi3w Tours.

Leonora Meriel grew up in London and studied literature at the University of Edinburgh in Scotland and Queen’s University in Canada. She worked at the United Nations in New York, and then for a multinational law firm.

In 2003 she moved from New York to Kyiv, where she founded and managed Ukraine’s largest Internet company. She studied at Kyiv Mohyla Business School and earned an MBA, which included a study trip around China and Taiwan, and climbing to the top of Hoverla, Ukraine’s highest peak and part of the Carpathian Mountains. She also served as President of the International Women’s Club of Kyiv, a major local charity.

During her years in Ukraine, she learned to speak Ukrainian and Russian, witnessed two revolutions and got to know an extraordinary country at a key period of its development.

In 2008, she decided to return to her dream of being a writer, and to dedicate her career to literature. In 2011, she completed The Woman Behind the Waterfall, set in a village in western Ukraine. While her first novel was with a London agent, Leonora completed her second novel The Unity Game, set in New York City and on a distant planet.

Leonora currently lives in Barcelona and London and has two children. She is working on her third novel.

Find out more by visiting Lenora's Website and connecting with her on Facebook and Twitter.

Now let's see what Lenora treasures.....

Sometimes we find special things to add to our lives. And sometimes special things find us.
I moved to Barcelona to start a new life 7 years ago and I bought an apartment – the first I had ever owned myself. The apartment was old and needed a lot of renovation and I stayed with a friend while it was full of workmen and dust. I had put aside a small amount of money for furniture and was working on my debut novel while waiting for the renovations to finish.

Barcelona is the perfect town for wandering around in. The weather is clear and warm, the city is compact, the metro takes you anywhere you want to go, and the streets are filled with interesting, artistic shops. Near to my new apartment there was a small art gallery in between a tailor and a Catalan restaurant. Every time I would walk by, I admired the paintings in there. Eventually, I went in and picked up a postcard of one of the paintings. I took it back to the flat where I was staying and kept it on my desk. I looked at it every day while I worked on my novel and felt happy that these paintings existed in the world.

One evening, about a month later, I was passing the gallery close to midnight. It looked like a party was finishing up. The door was open and there were cava bottles and cups strewn among the paintings and a few last people in conversation. I decided to go in. A few minutes later I found myself drinking a glass of cava and standing in front of the painting that had sat on my desk for the last few weeks. And then the artist came up to me, wearing clothes covered in paint. I explained how much I loved his work and how his postcard had made me happy for the last month.

“Make me an offer,” he said. “I need to sell them.”

It turned out that he was down on his luck. In the past he had sold his work in the US for many thousands of dollars, but creative people depend on a thriving economy and art is a luxury. He needed to sell his work for whatever he could get for it.

I explained I was a writer. “I don’t have enough money,” I said.

“Make me an offer,” he repeated.

I had the small amount of money set aside for furniture. But at that point I couldn’t care less about furniture.

I wrote down a number on a piece of paper and pointed at the painting I loved.

He looked at it and nodded. He gestured around the gallery. “What else do you like?”

I knew which my favorite paintings were. There were two others that I was absolutely smitten with.
I wrote down my entire furniture budget on the paper. I showed him the three paintings I loved.

“Agreed,” he said.

The next day, the artist and I carried the paintings up the 5 floors of stairs to my flat. A year later, when the renovations were finished, they were on my walls. They could not have been more perfect.
I didn’t have furniture for a long time. I used cardboard boxes for tables and buckets for storing clothes.

But those three paintings hanging in my flat gave me happiness and creative inspiration and such an intense feeling of home and happiness every single day. They were part of my journey while I was writing my novel. I felt that they gave me energy and encouraged me to create beautiful art that would touch someone’s life.

It never for one second occurred to me, while I was gazing at the postcard on my desk, that those paintings could one day be mine.

But they were mine. Or, more accurately – I was theirs.

They found the perfect flat and the perfect adoring owner and the perfect walls to hang on.

I will always be grateful for that.

Wow what an amazing story Leonora! Please tell us a little about your book....

Heartbreak and transformation in the beauty of a Ukrainian village.

For seven-year old Angela, happiness is exploring the lush countryside around her home in western Ukraine. Her wild imagination takes her into birds and flowers, and into the waters of the river.

All that changes when, one morning, she sees her mother crying. As she tries to find out why, she is drawn on an extraordinary journey into the secrets of her family, and her mother's fateful choices.
Can Angela lead her mother back to happiness before her innocence is destroyed by the shadows of a dark past?

Beautiful, poetic and richly sensory, this is a tale that will haunt and lift its readers.

The Woman Behind the Waterfall is available now at Goodreads * Amazon * Barnes & Noble

#SaturdaySpotlight is on Diana Rubino and her Cookbook!

Good Morning Friends,

You may recognize today's guest. Diana Rubino has visited before with an EggCerpt Exchange and Tuesday Treasures. You may also recognize her book from one of her previous visits. The good news is, Around the World in 80 Meals has been picked up and re-issued by a new publisher! Here's Diana to tell you the story....

I went on my first cruise at age 40, which many people used to consider young for cruising. Not so much any more. Cruises come in many varieties, to fit budgets, tastes, and age groups. After that first cruise of the Eastern Mediterranean, “Cradles of Civilization” on the Norwegian Cruise Line’s Dream, my husband and I were hooked.

If you ask fifty people what they consider the best thing about a cruise, you’ll get at least fifty answers…unpacking only once in the cabin of your floating hotel, waking up in a new exotic port each day, the leisure, the pampering, the shows, the shore excursions…and of course the cuisine.

Cruise lines employ top-notch chefs who create exotic gourmet meals, from fresh ingredients, catering to every palate and need: vegan, diabetic, low sodium, gluten free…and the sky’s the limit if you want to indulge to your heart’s desire and gain that average two-pounds-a-day on your cruise. But why should anyone only be able to indulge in these delectable delights if cruising the seas? Those of us who love to cook and enjoy gourmet cuisine should be able to create meals from cruises of the past in our own kitchens.

I searched for seven menus of a diversity of cruise lines, from the luxurious Cunard Line, famed for its opulent ocean liners, to a small but highly exclusive line of yachts that offer the most personalized cruise experience. I found recipes for each item on the seven menus, from appetizers to entrées to desserts, cocktails and pre-dinner aperitifs. I devoted a chapter to each day of the ‘fantasy cruise’ introducing each ship and explaining where it is located, with information about each cruise line and its chefs. The main focus is on the dinner menu followed by recipes for recreating every delectable morsel. The result is AROUND THE WORLD IN 80 MEALS, THE BEST OF CRUISE SHIP CUISINE.

Wanting to appeal to the casual cruise passenger as well as gourmet cooks, I included a chapter about the history of cruising, and wrapped it up with extras, helpful hints, and cruise contact info. I’ve tried many of the recipes and am happy to say they turned out very well. AROUND THE WORLD IN 80 MEALS is available from Amazon.

Diana Rubino's passion for history and travel has taken her to every locale of her stories, set in Medieval and Renaissance England, Egypt, the Mediterranean, colonial Virginia, New England, and New York. Her urban fantasy romance, FAKIN' IT, won a Top Pick award from Romantic Times.

She is a member of Romance Writers of America, the Richard III Society and the Aaron Burr Association. She lives on Cape Cod with her husband Chris. In her spare time, Diana bicycles, golfs, plays her piano, cooks, and devours books of any genre. #ThursdayThoughts with Dave Biebel

Good Morning!

Today's guest is brand new to our blog so please give Dave Biebel a great, big, SW LA welcome and see what thoughts he has to share with us today. Take it away Dave....

Some Uplift for Your Downcast
Dr. David Biebel

Every day that I knew him, my grandfather read the New York Times, front to back. Many of those days, when I was in prep school and college and seminary he would end the letter or conversation with this question: Do you think we’ll ever beat the Russians? He died a few years ago, and I’m glad that he didn’t live to see the chaos in our world today, because he took a lot of it inside, with the result that he experienced quite a lot of anxiety over things he couldn’t change. From one who knows, it’s not hard to inherit this tendency.

Thankfully, there is Jesus, Prince of Peace. My most uplifting thought these days is that the Prince of Peace is still the Prince of Peace, and all around us people long for what he can bring to them and to their world. It’s up to Followers of Christ to tell them, and show them -- “to give them what they need in the guise of what they want.”

And that summarizes why I wrote the book, Away in a Manger: The Christmas Story from a Nativity Scene Lamb’s Point of View. It’s stealth evangelism when an agnostic parent reads the words in this book to the children, at Christmas time or anytime. Imagine that parent reading, from this little book:

"It was the prophet Isaiah who said the Lord would keep us in perfect peace, if our mind was stayed on him. Isaiah prophesied:

... the Lord himself will give you the sign. Look! The virgin will conceive a child! She will give birth to a son and will call him Im¬manuel (which means "God is with us").

"We all know that's not the way it works; but God is in the miracle business and that is how he decided to make it work. Then, just a few verses later, the prophet added this":

For a child is born to us, a son is given to us.
The government will rest on his shoulders.
And he will be called:
Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.

"What a marvelous description of the Lord Jesus Christ, given approximately 700 years before he was born!"
-----
When I was a pastor, it was challenging to find a way to tell this old, old story in a new way, or at least in a way that had the congregation sitting on the edge of their pews, engaged in a novella with great original art, versus sitting on the edge of their pews hoping the roast wouldn’t burn if the sermon went too long.
Though I never achieved it then, a chance meeting with an inquisitive lamb named “Ransom” -- which occurred in my mind about three years ago – and the help of a great young artist, Marina Calin, we resurrected the Christmas story project.

The following is a fellow author’s reaction: This extraordinary Christmas storybook tells the Christmas story in an entirely new and fresh way that will capture the hearts of both children and adults. The book is filled with beautiful lifelike illustrations and rich content that will educate children and surprise adults, enriching the typical way the story has grown to be told with fascinating Christian history and solid theology. Using God's creation, in this case a lamb, to tell the Christmas story paints a compelling picture of the true meaning of Christmas. Anyone who has children in their life should first read this book and then give it as a gift with a personal inscription to each and every child they can think of this Christmas.  -- Monte Swan
